John O'Sullivan & Sons - Painters and Decorators
About Us.
A family firm that combines modern methods with traditional craftsmanship
Our great grandfather, ‘Long’ Jack O’Sullivan, believed, in the words of Johannes Brahms, that: ‘without craftsmanship, inspiration is a mere reed shaken in the wind.’ To his mind a poorly planned and executed painting or decorating job was a false economy. It wouldn’t please the eye and it wouldn’t stand the test of time. This philosophy has been passed down from father to son for four generations. Evidence of its success is to be found in the towns, villages and countryside of West Cork and even further afield. In a nutshell, when John O’Sullivan & Sons paint something, it stays painted.
What of the practicalities of employing us? We have built up a great deal of experience and expertise over the years and you can be certain that your project will be completed on time, on budget and to your total satisfaction.
John O’Sullivan & Sons is based in Glandore, West Cork. ‘Long’ Jack had to contend with horse drawn transport and bad roads and rarely travelled far outside the parish for work. We are in a more fortunate position and happily undertake projects as far east as Cork city, and as far west as Mizen Head.
Our pricing is extremely competitive, too, in part because we own our own extensive range of equipment, including lifts and scaffolding.
Crucially, in this day and age, we are fully compliant with all the relevant regulations and carry extensive insurance. A completed site safety hazard identification and risk assessment can be provided upon request.
We would rather not do a job at all, than do it badly. As Richard Sennett said: ‘Craftsmanship names an enduring, basic human impulse, the desire to do a job well for its own sake.’ This describes perfectly how we feel about our work.
